This historical house needed to be updated and required an addition to accommodate an active family. The clients first contacted us wanting to renovate the existing kitchen. The project soon turned into a whole home renovation with a new addition. The interior design challenge we faced was to execute a seamless design from the existing historical features to the new interior and exterior.
Our first task was to have the five-year-old addition demolished since it was not integrated into the existing home via design details or through the floor plan. With the new addition, we needed to take into consideration the outdoor pool and screened in gazebo and to stay within the space available without changes to those areas. Some of the dimensions needed to be carefully controlled due to the space restrictions of the site. To ensure the exterior addition looked like it was original, we sourced reclaimed brick which was the same as the 100-year-old brick. All the details were reproduced with new windows throughout the property.
The interior design of the main floor integrated a newly expanded kitchen with premium detailing, appliances, and material and a floor plan that works for the family. A new family room, entry and bathroom were also added to the main floor plan.
On the second floor, a master suite was added with a sunroom. The existing three bedrooms were refurbished and existing detailing from the 1900s era work was restored. For the new spaces, all the existing moldings and details were reproduced with great care and attention.
The final result is a historical house that is true to the original design and also contemporary in how it works and flows. It is very suited to this family who immensely enjoys their new space.
