Synergy Interior Design was hired to complete a series of sequential projects for St. Boniface College. The school was expanding and developing into a University, with a new building for their nursing program. The project needed to be completed in a timely fashion so the next department could be moved and so on and so forth.
With the new nursing building construction being completed, the entire building needed to be furnished for the September start of classes and staff to move in. All the lecture halls on one level required seating and tables and the University has a preference for individual seating as opposed to theatre seating. Accessibility for all students and staff, as well as durability and ease of cleaning, were integrated parts of our plans and specifications.
For the nursing labs, hospital beds and student tables and chairs completed the furniture layout, with different sizes of rooms for different lab groups. The other areas we worked on included offices and meeting rooms.
The historical building at 200 De la Cathedrale Avenue required a sequence of moves to enable staff and programs to function during this period of upheaval and redesign. Classrooms, labs, offices, a boardroom, lunchrooms, and president’s and vice president’s offices all had to be considered. In many areas, furniture was reused and refurbished for a new look or function.
The president’s area was completely redesigned with a new floor plan including all the private offices, the open office area, the president’s boardroom, kitchen area, and a private bathroom. A new colour and material pallet were developed based on traditional building details. Attention was given to lighting, colours, character development and material to create a space.
Even though a new building was added to this St. Boniface campus, the University was actually still very tight on space for the facility. We were happy to have successfully executed a plan with space being a prize commodity.
